About the role

This role will suit anyone looking to progress their career in electoral services. The Principal Electoral Services Officer (PESO), reporting into the Deputy Head of Service, will be instrumental in delivering high quality electoral registration and elections on behalf of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) and Returning Officer (RO), the Chief Executive.

Working with electoral services assistants and officers within the team, the PESO will supervise and undertake day to day electoral registration work, including ensuring internal and statutory deadlines are met, supporting officers and assistants, and making sure residents receive a high-quality service.

The next 18 months will be a busy time in the electoral services sector. Major elections are due in 2024 which will be delivered alongside significant legislative changes. We’re modernising the way we do things by implementing new systems and revamping our processes making this an exciting time to join Haringey Council’s high-profile electoral services team.

About the team

The small team deliver no-fail services of electoral registration and delivery of elections on behalf of the ERO and RO. The team work closely with departments from across the organisation and to co-ordinate projects as well as working with other electoral services teams across London and the UK.

About you

With experience of working in an electoral services team within local government, you will have strong verbal and written communication skills coupled with a willingness to go that extra mile to meet tight deadlines.

You should have excellent data processing / data entry skills, strong IT skills including experience of using Microsoft 365 (particularly Excel) to intermediate level or above. You should have significant experience of working with an industry-recognised Election Management System (EMS), preferably Civica Xpress.

There will be a requirement to work additional hours at peak periods (including evenings and weekends and bank-holidays). Due to the nature of the role, there will also be restrictions on when annual leave can be taken.
