About the role

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Electoral Services Officer to support the Electoral Services team. You will be part of our busy elections team, assisting West Oxfordshire District Council with the smooth running of elections and associated activities.

The Electoral Services section is responsible for organising all types of national and local elections and referenda, as well as compiling and maintaining the Register of Electors via an annual canvass and individual registration throughout the year.

You will need to have the ability to communicate under pressure with colleagues and members of the public courteously and efficiently, both verbally and in writing, to work on one’s own or as part of a team within a busy environment and to undertake routine tasks quickly and very accurately.  You will have the ability to rise to the challenge of working under pressure to meet strict deadlines.  Computer literacy and experience working in a busy office is essential.

You will need to be flexible and work extra hours including some evenings, weekends and bank holiday during elections and peak canvass periods.

  • Experience of working flexibly as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues and stakeholders
  • Experience of being involved in continuously improving services and developing products to meet customer need
  • Ability to remain calm and confident when dealing with challenging customers and environments
  • Ability to resolve complex issues by negotiation
  • Deliver commitments and take ownership of own caseload, reshaping of plans to deliver required outcomes
