New Forest District Council is one of the largest District Councils in the UK.   We cover an area of approximately 290 square miles, have a population of 176,000, with an electorate of 142,000 and 37 Town/Parish Councils.    We are looking for an exceptional, knowledgeable and enthusiastic person to lead our Electoral Services Team to deliver the whole range of electoral registration and elections functions.   This will include community governance reviews as and when they arise, and also an electoral review of the District due to commence in 2020.

As well as ensuring that all aspects of the electoral registration and elections functions run smoothly and in accordance with the law, you will be the principal adviser on electoral matters to the Returning Officer (the Council’s Chief Executive), and to elected members, candidates, agents and the public.   You must therefore be able to demonstrate an excellent knowledge of the law and procedures relating to electoral registration and elections, as well as extensive experience at an appropriate management level.   You must also show that you have the leadership and interpersonal skills required for this demanding role, and the drive and commitment to move forward with change, including greater use of technology where permissible, to continue to deliver a high performing service.
