The Outreach Focus Group has met a number of times annually, last year at Kirklees Council, and City of York Council agreed to host in 2019. The Group meets to discuss shared good practice for the areas of registration we face as challenges outside the normal canvass period, including those groups and communities that have lower registration rates.
This year the Cabinet Office Democratic Engagement Team have kindly offered to run an afternoon workshop.
The morning session will have some guest speakers as follows:
- Laura Lock – Deputy Chief Executive of the Association of Electoral Administrators
- Peter Forrester – Regional Manager – Electoral Commission
- Simon Copper – Support Manager – United Response
A copy of the agenda is here.
A copy of the brochure for United Response Charity can be found here; this organisation supports people with physical disabilities, mental health needs and learning disabilities, by providing work placements as well as assisted independent living. In York, Simon Copper has help build a strong network and this has included some work to encourage many people they support to both register to vote and vote for the first time. The Charity is national and has branches all over the UK.
The meeting is free and lunch will provided, if you are interested in attending, please email to reserve a place.
