National Occupational Standards for Electoral Services Staff

National Occupational Standards for Electoral Services (ES) Staff describe all the roles and responsibilities that ES staff and managers need to carry out at every level of work. They include the standard of performance that must be achieved and list the knowledge that needs to be acquired to carry out work activities effectively. The standards are an invaluable and freely available resource tool. They can save workers at every level of the organisation considerable time by being used in a range of contexts. They can, for example, help outline the job when inducting a new employee or tackling a new area of work; they can provide an objective framework for conducting appraisals by being used by both appraiser and appraisee, they can inform training programmes or lend themselves to the development of job descriptions.

The standards were developed with the support of: The Electoral Commission, The Electoral Office for Northern Ireland (EONI), The Association of Electoral Administrators (AEA), The Society of Lawyers and Administrators in Scotland (SOLAR); Scottish Assessors Association (SAA); Society of Local Authority Chief Executives and Senior Managers (SOLACE), and local authority employers and employees in each of the ''home nations''. They are part of a government initiative to improve the performance and competitiveness of the UK workforce.

Below is a list of all the approved Standards. You can view or download an individual Standard by clicking on the appropriate listed item or click here for the whole suite. This is a large file and could take several seconds to appear.
