Training

One of the primary aims of the Association of Electoral Administrators is the personal development of its members by way of education and training. To meet this aim, and the development of consistent and efficient electoral service administration, the Association has developed National and Branch level training courses on a range of topics relevant to members. Trainers accredited by the AEA deliver all national and local Branch level courses. These Trainers have considerable practical experience, as well as the presentation skills required to deliver high quality training.

National training courses are held at conveniently situated venues across the country, often on a residential basis. These courses are aimed at the general development of members in addition to complementing the Association's professional qualification syllabus. Common course notes ensure that delegates receive consistent information.

Training is provided that responds to the needs of members at times that ensure that the information is relevant to current issues. Members are regularly offered courses on electoral registration, combined elections, special category electors, election accounting and a range of specific topics. Changes to legislation mean that all courses are constantly reviewed and updated.

Training is at the heart of the Association's existence. It enables members to keep up to date with new developments, introduces topics for those members new to the profession and acts as a reminder for those longer serving members. Training facilitates the passing on of good practice to colleagues and ensures that high standards of electoral administration are maintained for the benefit of would-be politicians, the local authority employers and the public alike.

The Association is not alone in providing training for electoral staff, but we can say that our record supports the claim to being committed and able to deliver fully comprehensive training. The Association will work with other Groups where there is a mutual benefit to the reputations of both organisations and their members.

Additionally, each Branch of the Association has its own Training Officer and the Association now has a national Training Manager, appointed in December 2006, who will be responsible for delivery of its training programme.
